This Saturday… I am thrilled to be reunited with my Butoh fam in SF for Bad Unkl Sista + SORNE | “After awake, Before asleep” | Yerba Buena Night 2015
Bad Unkl Sista and SORNE will debut a new collaborative work “After awake, Before asleep” at the annual Yerba Buena Night, a free outdoor arts festival. This installation will take place on the evening of Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6:00-10:…00 PM at the YBCA Sculpture Garden, 701 Mission Street, San Francisco (at the corner of Mission/3rd Street in SOMA).
Based on the poem “After awake, Before asleep (a kind of villanelle)” by Eve Lubin Bradford, this four-hour continuous performance installation will explore the stillpoint dance form and state work performance techniques developed by Bad Unkl Sista artistic director Anastazia Aranaga. These are utilized to cultivate an internal landscape that offers a vulnerable, authentic experience for the performer as well as the audience. SORNE, together with musical guest Daniel Yasmin, will create vocal tapestries within an array of percussive elements, including hand-made gong trees and prepared tympani drums.
This debut of “After awake, Before asleep” will also feature ERO MACHINA, an animation by Arizona-based visualist Adam Cooper-Terán.
